Bulk Carrier M/E High Temperature Alarm Troubleshooting in CUD Shipyard
Hits: 1174 Time: 2026.03.17

For the entrust of Bulk carrier M/E high temperature warning trouble shooting in CUD shipyard ,  we know the serious extent which will directly affect the safety navigation even cause the breakdown or whole damage of the main engine:

1. Cylinder scuffing, bearing seizure, bearing burning--- The main engine may be directly scrapped or require major overhaul with extremely high costs.

2. Deformation and damage to pistons, cylinder liners and valves---The main engine cannot operate normally.

3. Lubricating oil deterioration and coking--The condition deteriorates further, leading to a vicious cycle.

4.Damage to supercharging and exhaust systems---It directly affects the power and safety of the main engine.

5.Automatic engine shutdown or sudden stall-- It is extremely dangerous and may cause accidents.

6.Fire outbreak in severe cases--It may cause a fire.

Basing on customer entrust and avoiding the ongoing worse situation happening via settling the problem at the beginning, our experienced technician on board , guided by on duty engineer conducting below inspection procedure:

1.Confirm the type and value of the high temperature alarm.

2.
Check cooling water pressure, temperature and level.

3.Check the operation of the cooling water pump.

4.Check if the radiator /cooler is blocked.

5.Check lubricating oil pressure, temperature and oil level.

6.Check exhaust gas temperature and whether each cylinder temperature is abnormal.

7.Check if the main engine load is too high

8.Check if the turbocharger is working properly.

9.Reduce load or shut down for inspection if necessary.

10.Restart only after finding and eliminating the cause.

Beside above mentioned each step for trouble shooting, our technician also checked the main engine bearing shell and connecting rod bearing shell and main engine exhaust gas probe
At last we test the main engine exhaust gas probe with temperature calibrator which indicate the exhaust gas probe with inaccurate temperature reading ( too high), occasional false high temperature alarm with carbon deposition, blockage or burning damage at the probe tip

Then the probe tip had been dismantled for re-cleaning the carbon deposits and soot from the tip, further checking of the the probe is burnt or deformed or not,  then re-calibrate and reset after checking of the indicator or alarm module is working properly  --- M/E high temperature alarm status resume to normal.

Issues with the generator control system can often exacerbate power supply instability during high-load conditions, which in turn disrupts the main engine’s fuel injection and cooling systems and may lead to overheating alarms. For professional maintenance procedures, please read our article:Marine Generator Control Cabinet: Essential Maintenance Guidelines | How to Prevent Ship Blackout Accidents Caused by Control Circuit Faults.
