Deck Crane Routine Inspection & Maintenance in Qingdao Beihai Shipyard
Hits: 458 Time: 2026.03.26

This project was carried out from late 2025 to early 2026 at Qingdao Beihai Shipyard. Our team completed the routine inspection and maintenance for 4 sets of IHI electrohydraulic deck cranes (Model H305185–280, 30.5 mt) within one week to meet the vessel’s tight sailing schedule. A full set of inspection reports with defect records and maintenance suggestions was provided to the customer as required.

1. Pre-operation Visual & Structural Inspection

  • Check overall deformation, cracks, or abnormal wear on the main structure, legs, and base.
  • Check all pins, locking devices, and connecting bolts for tightness and structural integrity.
  • Any structural defects that may affect strength and safety will be recorded and reported.

2. Wire Rope & Hook System Inspection

  • Check wire ropes for wear, deformation, rust, breakage, or extrusion damage.
  • Check the real condition of the drum and reevings.
  • Check the hook, safety latch, and locking device for damage or malfunction.
  • Replace any parts that do not meet safe operation standards.

3. Slewing & Luffing Mechanism Inspection

  • Check the working condition of the slewing bearing and gear system.
  • Check the luffing mechanism and its internal components.
  • Check counter-balance valves and load-holding function to ensure stability.
  • Check for oil leakage, abnormal noise, or vibration during operation.

4. Hydraulic Power Transmission System Inspection

  • Check the hydraulic oil level, quality, oil temperature, and pressure.
  • Check for leakage in pumps, motors, valves, pipelines, and connectors.
  • Check filter condition and pressure difference.
  • Any pressure drop will seriously affect crane response and safety.

5.Safety Interlock Devices & Limit Switches

  • Check all limit switches for hoisting, luffing, and slewing.
  • Check safety interlock functions to ensure reliable operation.
  • This is critical to prevent over-running, over-hoisting, and dangerous misoperation.

6. Control Levers & Remote Control System

  • Check the control console, levers, buttons, and switches for flexible and correct action.
  • Check the remote control system for normal communication and response.
  • Replace any faulty signal lamps, indicators, or damaged components.

7. Electrical System & E-Box Inspection

  • Check electrical cabinets, wiring, connectors, and terminals for tightness.
  • Check for loose wires, corrosion, or potential short circuits.
  • Ensure the whole electrical system works stably and safely.

After the whole inspection, we carried out functional testing under no-load and load conditions to confirm all motions work smoothly and safely. The crane can meet normal cargo handling requirements before the ship’s departure.

Maintenance Tip for IHI H305185-280 Electrohydraulic Crane:

In accordance with IHI manufacturer’s guidelines, regular greasing of the slewing bearing (every 15 working days) and replacement of hydraulic return filters (every 3 months) can effectively reduce sudden equipment failures and avoid vessel sailing schedule delays. All maintenance operations shall comply with SOLAS Chapter V and marine industry regulations.
